The Summer Day

Who made the world?
Who made the swan and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

~Mary Oliver

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

She shares in class that she was married for 30 years. She shares that in the entire 30 years of marriage, she in no way grew, or expanded or learned.

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

I remember sitting in meditation and the teacher saying “Welcome, this! is your life.”
Deep in my heart, a swell of gratitude and knowledge and a feeling of home.

This. Is my life.

My desire is to spread knowledge. Create joy. Bring peace. And share love.

So. Much. Love.

What are you going to do with your one wild and precious life?

I love you,

Love, Sariah

  1. I feel that if I can overcome such a brutal betrayal and come out not imbittered, but in fact stronger, than wow! Every day now is a gift! To be able to say, “In retrospect you did me a favor. I would have never had the courage to leave. I would have stood like a soldier at my post, never giving up, and I would have had to lose my soul in the process!” I’m so grateful that choice was taken from me! There is no marriage worth losing yourself piece by piece! To find myself has been a glorious adventure!
